Today the Hercules C130J overflew relevant RAF stations as a tribute to the 56 years of total service, including RAF Cranwell. Albeit the “J” model has only been in service since 1999 and the last 15 are due to retire this month, hence the flyby.
The sadness, is that a capability has been lost, as we know the replacement A400m yet cannot be tasked in all the roles that Hercules could fulfill. Maybe the A400 will soon be signed off for those roles, until then a sad day or the RAF!
