COMMANDO 961 SP/CR/CLASSIC
EDIT: My bike is one of those affected, it should be noted that not all TVS 961’s will be recalled (my VIN is in the 600’s).
Below is a Norton Press Release: I called my supplying dealer who said Norton will contact you if it applies. Seemingly it is for lower VIN numbers. This is the mail I received today 26 April:
At this time, we can confirm that a “do not ride” notice is in place for certain Commandos. However, please note that this does not automatically mean your Commando 961 is affected. If your Commando is impacted, you will receive written communication from us directly with full details and next steps.
In the meantime, if your bike was built between 7th June 2021 and 12th February 2025, we kindly ask that you do not ride it until you’ve received official confirmation from us.
We are writing to inform you of an important safety recall affecting Norton Commando 961 SP/CR/Classic built between 7th June 2021 and 12th February 2025. This action is being taken as part of our commitment to your safety and to comply with UK safety regulations.
Please be aware that this is a stop ride notification.
What is the issue?
It has come to our attention that the starter ring gear may have been installed using a bonding agent thread locker that has failed to cure, leading to a potential failure of the starter ring gear assembly. This may lead to the vehicle coming to a sudden stop during operation.
What should you do?
We ask you to immediately stop using your motorcycle until it has been inspected and repaired if necessary. We will shortly commence communication with owners to schedule an appointment for a free collection and delivery, inspection and necessary repairs.
What will be done?
The recall service will include removal, inspection and refitting of the ring gear retaining screws. We anticipate that the repair process will take approximately two hours to complete. This recall service will be at no cost to you.
